CREATING YOUR DREAM

Demolition & Discovery

The first phase at Windemere involved a comprehensive, month-long teardown of the existing main floor. Walls, ceilings, and outdated fixtures were removed with care, uncovering the original bones of the home—some charming, others challenged by decades of wear. This process revealed hidden surprises characteristic of an older house: uneven joists, legacy wiring, and curious construction details from eras past. The demolition wasn’t just about stripping back—it was an exercise in discovery, mapping out the existing structure’s integrity and revealing opportunities to celebrate its historic character while planning for future modernization.

PRECISION IN BUILDING

Structural & Mechanical Modernization

Once the site was cleared, the team dove into the framing and mechanical phase. Load-bearing walls were reconfigured to open sightlines across the main floor, transforming compartmentalized rooms into a fluid living space. Meanwhile, new HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems were run seamlessly, bringing the house into the 21st century. Energy efficiency became a priority: upgraded insulation, high-performance ductwork, and LED-ready wiring were installed throughout. These behind-the-walls improvements establish comfort and reliability, yet remain invisible—laying the foundation for a modern home experience while preserving the home’s structural integrity.

ENSURING YOUR VISION

Contextual Adaptation

With the bones and services in place, the design team faced the challenge—yet delight—of merging the old and the new. This phase focused on working with the original architectural vocabulary: maintaining hardwood floors, preserving window casings and heritage trim, and respecting ceiling heights while weaving in custom-built features for the client. Curved transitions, niche shelving, and thoughtful millwork references seamlessly blend with restored plasterwork. The result is a renovation deeply rooted in the original character of the Junction home, yet tailored precisely to its owners’ lifestyle: open enough for entertaining, intimate in the kitchen, flexible in layout, and full of light.

BEYOND COMPLETION

Finishes & Flourish

Finally came the layer of life: premium finishes, textures, and details that elevate Windemere into an elegant, contemporary haven. Natural stone counters, matte black hardware, and custom lighting fixtures bring polish and personality. Soft-toned cabinetry and warm wood accents tie back into the heritage of the home, while open shelving and seamless floor transitions speak to today’s aesthetic. Each material choice—whether a beveled backsplash, mid-century door pulls, or carefully staged artwork—was made to both highlight the house’s past and celebrate its renewed voice. When the project wrapped, it stood as a harmonious blend of preservation and progress: a Junction residence that feels authentic, functional, and timeless. Project Windemere by Hawk PD is a triumph of thoughtful renovation: thoughtfully phased, client-driven, and beautifully executed. By embracing the home’s history rather than erasing it, the team delivered a carefully orchestrated transformation—proving that modern living and heritage charm can coexist in perfect harmony in Toronto’s beloved Junction neighborhood.
